Military eh? I've been in for 15+ years...done a ton of moving myself. There's tons of things on any military base to meet people with your type of hobbies etc. If you're a dependant most bases have some type of spouses group so you can meet other spouses. If you're active duty there's various elnisted and officer clubs, working groups, hobby related clubs etc.

Considering you are a stay at home mom i would suggest using ur kids to an advantage! Like take ur kids to a park and talk to some mothers there! Or if ur kids are old enough ask them if they want to join gymnastics, dancing, pee-wee sports etc!! However dont force ur kids to do any such things........but im more than sure u'll will find friends in the proccess!
However, if u are planning on moving anytime soon u can still consider them, since they can be taught and ur son/daughter can continue from where they left off! :P

Just like many have said, its best to get out and join a hobbie club or leauge of some sort. I think taking the kids to the park was a great idea someone posted. Sounds like your probably an introvert, you may wanna work on that to step out of your comfort zone so talking to people would be eaiser. Its a risk with very little to lose.

Try taking a class for fun, it's a great way to do something you like, with people who share your interests.
If you are a stay at home mom, bring your children to a "gymboree" or something where other moms are. That is, if your children are that age.
Get out there, there are plenty of friends waiting to be had! :) Good luck!

Join stay at home moms support groups. Yahoo your little heart out until you meet/make a friend. You can also run adds in the paper-get your own support group going. Walking buddies/ cooking buddies etc.
Good luck!
