These people infuriate those of us who actually do love animals. I've lost count of how many cats I have rescued, spent money on to get them healthy and then gave them away to good homes.
Maybe some people should read the news listed below...

I have been passionate about animal rights and welfare for a few years now. When I first came across PETA and was informed that they are the biggest animal rights acitivist group worldwide, I was very impressed and started reading into some of their work, and became a non-financial member.
However, I started reading more information about PETA, from unrelated individuals and organisations, and learnt about their killing record, and extremist actions. In relation to some of their actions I believe they are extreme, and although this may indicate their passion for helping animals and their attempt to punish those that exploit animals, I think they go about this the wrong way.
The thing that has most angered me was their claim that Steve Irwin was not a real wildlife warrior .. just another celebrity exploiting animals to make money. Other than being completely disrespectful and insensitive, it was untrue and PETA was wrong to suggest it. A lot of people were angry about it. Anyway, that really made me see PETA from a different perspective.
Overall, while PETA does do a lot to promote animal rights and inform the public about the treatment of animals in society, I believe they go about this the wrong way.

Like most on here have said... they have great ideas, but they take things too far. I think they would have a much broader support network if they turned it down a notch and stopped scaring people away. That said, they've also done some great work. Exposing the animal experiments of Iams, exposing the cruelty of KFC, working with other fast food giants to improve the care of animals from the places they get them from, etc. If they weren't so gung-ho, some of these things might not have been accomplished.
So I dunno... they're too extreme for me... but I do agree with MOST of what they say. I think in many respects they have mellowed a bit... I think when they realized they could get celebrities on their side if they play their cards right, they figured they'll get more publicity from that than they will by blowing up research labs. There's a LOT of big name celebrities supporting them!
PS... I haven't heard anything to suggest that "they actually abuse animals too, apparently". Where did you hear that? I'd be interested in finding out if it's true... cuz it's awful hard to believe. Thanks.

i think it's good in theory, but like so much it is taken too far. i value animal lives, but they're not equal to humans or like the PETA people seem to think better than humans. I think it's sad how a lot of animals are treated in testing labs or before being slaughtered. I think that the PETA people actually hurt their cause by being so far away from mainstream. A less extreme version of PETA could probably be much more effective.

I agree with people that fight for the rights of animals. People are abusive and neglectful. I do not agree with people who go overboard and take it to far. I don't agree with the people who picket other people for their choice of food, or clothing. I don't agree with the ones who abuse people to try to protect animals. Tow wrongs do not make a right. I think PETA in itself is a good idea. The people who make the headlines for their erratic behavior is what makes it bad.

Animals are resources just like lumber or corn. We should conserve, repect, and treat them humanely but giving them actual "rights" is folly. I respect anyone who would fight for animal rights based on personal morals or conviction but PETA has neither. If you get the chance watch the Penn and Teller video on PETA.

I find PETA a little over the top...besides I'd have a hard time becoming a vegetarian. You should check out the World Wildlife Fund. I joined 2 years ago...they are peaceful and reasonable, and they actually get government policies changed...same with Greenpeace, although I have not yet joined that group.

I don't trust them and I don't like their tactics. It sounds like they are okay with violence against people to make a point.
They want to "liberate" all animals, including pets. That's what the world needs--- Lhasa Apsos and Papillions running wild and scavenging for food.
I oppose abusing animals, but sleeping on my couch is not abuse. If it is, then my hubby needs to turn me in for abusing him too.

It appears that I agree with the majority of those who have already posted. I am all for someone standing up for what they believe in. I agree that they have the right to express themselves and their opinions. I do NOT agree with a majority of their tactics. They are entitled to their ideals, but I feel that the way that they express said ideals is overly zealous.
