since u wanna help....why dont you go to a reservation up there. visit the standing rock rez and go from there.talk to the older ppl.theyre more likely to give you good answers and remember to offer some tobacco and a can of coffee when you visit an elders home and be respectful...no stoopid questions like sexual things as I have found this to be reprehensible...attend a pow wow.but there again! be watchful of the fake ndns-theyre the ones with blonde hair and blue eyes...altho they MAY have a drop of native in them they seem to take it as if they were full blood...fancy names regarding eagles, wolves, buffalos,or names taken from our respected cheifs and elders by some of these white fakes should not be believed...afterall-if they were true to their heritage they would have given theyre life for the support and cause to remain a true blood.all the ppl u see at a powwow are ppl who as recently as dances with wolves is whut started this whole I LOVE NDNS thing...I as a native american would appreciate you and respect you a LOT more if you sed you were a decendant and not a 1/16th CHEROKEE..or that ur granma was a cherokee princess..theres no such thing as a princess...and yess vine deloria's family is where i was a very lucky person to have received a wonderful name from he and my mother...good luck...

They are pretty open folks for the most part. In some ways that's suprising considering all that's happend. They are very close to thier heritage and most are very knowlegeable about it. As far a fan club, I don't know about that. Look for museums, and factual literature, and they may even have some groups that work to actively preserve their heritage and educate people. But, now that you know, just don't use the term "Red Indians". It's not hyper PC, just common courtesy. Now ya know!

I am pretty sure that Native Americans do not like being called red indians anymore!
