Schmeichel, they could fill in Cantona's slot but they never could replace Schmeichel.
His best protege is Gary Neville. He doesn't stand out as much as Giggs, but he is the one player that's almost never played one bad game for United, and the one player Ferguson will never drop in favor of another.

Cantona has been the best signing ever! He won countless games for Man Utd and its no wonder they still chant his name on the terraces. Schmeichel was also a brilliant signing. He saved countless points for the Reds and bowed out after acheiving the treble. Giggs has been solid, but has had quite a few injury troubles over the years. But Fergie has stuck by him, even when there was a dip in his form and it was rumoured that Inter Milan were after him

Fergies best buy ... without a doubt the great dane himself Pete Schmeichel.
The best keeper of his generation, look at the problems they have had replacing him.
I think Fergie said the same,
Anyway this is my opinion, and i'm a spurs fan, anyway hope Utd win league this year

Cantona by a mile.
He was the catalyst to our success.
Dennis Irwin, Roy Keane were also excellent buys.
Peter Schmicheal was the second best buy.

Cantona was best buy.
But it was no coincidence that the season after sherringham left utd they went trophyless for the first time in 5yrs!

Teddy was a great buy, but Cantona WAS THE BEST! No question!! (I am a Spurs supporter).
