The NFL referees are part-timers paid on a per-game basis who still work full time jobs and do hot have much time to train or attend meetings. The NFL's only developmental system for referees is the US college football system whose referees are also part-timers and paid even less.
The NBA has only the NCAA college system to draw on for referees (and perhaps the CBA), but they are full time professionals who attend camps, clinics and performance reviews..
The NHL and MLB have full time, highly paid professionals whose sold job is being an official. They go through year round training camps, clinics, reviews, evaluations and meetings. And before they ever get near the NHL or MLB, they work their way up through FOUR levels of highly competitive professional or amateur leagues (US college baseball and Major Junior Hockey) before they can reach the top.
And people wonder why the NHL and MLB have the best officials with the least controversy, while the NFL has the worst with the most. 9_9
NFL officiating is a joke.

I've noticed that refs in general are getting worse. I've seen a lot of college football games where the refs were inadequate at best. It should be noted that I watch a lot of Pac-10 games.
And the illegal block call on Hasselbeck when he was making a tackle was horrible. The league should have apologized for that one. I still can't figure out how you can make an illegal block, while tackling someone.

The league investigated it, said all was correct. Also you could change what you call bad calls and Pittsburgh would still win. The ball broke the plane, watch the footage. A push-off is defined as extending the arm and touching the defender, is this not what happened. Your case doesn't exist, ask the NFL. Get over it and grow up.
Pittsburgh won eight straight to get there, including teams far better than Seattle.

the refs made some bad calls......the game wasn't played that well
where were the refs when parker burned seattle and the pass to hines ward, seattle's dropped passes and poor clock management at the end of both halves?
Matt Hasselbeck looked like a one-man show sometimes
i'm getting tired of the crying about the refs

I think last years Superbowl sucked because of the Seahawks being in it. Could there have been a more boring team in there to watch then the Seahawks

GOD!! When are you Sea-chicken fans going to get over that? It doesn't matter what happened becuase the game is OVER!!! IT'S IN THE BOOKS!!! Get over it!! Maybe if your boys would worry more about this season than crying about the Super Bowl, they might have a chance to repeat as NFC champs.

The game itself sucked, the Seahawks being in it sucked and the Steelers winning it with the help of the refs really sucked. That's like Oregon beating Oklahoma this season.......with help from the refs.

Nope. The debacle was the lack of better ads! The FCC is such a nazi organization that freaks out whenever there is the slightest bit of skin that it´s made all the ads boring!

football itself is a set up...i love it and all but it makes me mad how the refs pretty much decide who wins the game.. the refs have money on the games so they have to base it on how much money they will lose when they make their call and visa versa
