maybe I'm wrong but,i think people vote for the man or woman that stands for the rights of the people so we can have the better chose of our freedom in things like health, jobs and better pay, lower cost for meds and then retirement.
we need to vote for things that will help us to make life a little bit better then it is now.
this person has to make me really believe that he or she can make my life easy to make it better for me to live.
not turn around and tax the hell out of me.

Unfortunately a lot of people pick their party based on what party they percieve they are supposed to belong to. People pick based on how their parents vote, they pick based on their profession, they pick based on their race, based on their gender, etc. What's really sad is that some poeple vote based on how their favorite celebrity votes, a celebrity which probably knows less about politics than a first grader. So yes, for most people they vote the same way they choose to be yankee or met fans.

This really depends on the person, there are a lot of factors that can influence political party and politician of choice. Some people have a litmus test such as abortion or the death penalty or same-sex marriage, others choose based on personality or appearance, still others may choose based on a combination of voting record and personality. A person's political affiliation may change throughout their life as the person's view on issues changes.

These days its blind faith like a sports fanatic. There are your casual fan who will admit that a 200 million dollar payroll is ruining baseball, and those who don't care since it benifits their team. Unfortunately unlike baseball we can't just turn if off and wait for Hockey to start.
Partisan politics ruin great nations but too many people are too "patriotic/passionate" to realize it.

I believe most pick their party based on what their parents were, which is sad. People really need to start thinking for them selves. I hope to see more and more independents emerge.

Do you mean by where they live? If so, then no. I am a Republican living in San Francisco.
My parents were Democrats.
