'cause I read somewhere that the rays are harmful for the unborn child. The Boss at Work keep giving me a bundle of photocopies with no respect at all.
I asked my friend who is a nurse and told me "Better safe than sorry, if I were you I would surely refuse !!!"
What's your opinion on it ?

ask your doctor what he thinks or search the internet for more info. Sometimes we get a little too paranoid while pregnant, but your friend is right, better safe than sorry.

Actually - it IS harmful to anyone's health to be photocopying - if the photocopier is not in a well - ventilated place. If the photocopier is a stuffy, pokey little room or corner - with no ventilation - then you should be concerned. It was not so long ago that this fact was mentioned by our occupational safefy officer and all our photocopiers were moved out into the corridors within 24 hours. I believe there was a lot they didn't tell us at the time. There are no rays or anything - but no one can tell me that there are no toxins in the 'toner' - have you seen and smelt that stuff????? Better to be safe than sorry!

It's only harmful if you are working with a laser copier and looking dierctly into the laser, which would be dumb to begin with, that would damage your eyes but not the childs. It can also be harmful if you breath up the toner, which could be harmful to you and your child. As long as you stay away from both of these you should be find. The toner is what you need to stay away from. Let someone else put in the toner.

Just do your job and quit looking for excuses not to have to do it. The reason women weren't supposed to make photo copies is long gone. The old machines had harsh chemicals with a VERY strong odor that caused nausea in pregnant women. You just shouldn't be the one to change the tonor.

There is nothing harmful about using a modern copier or printer. The "boss at work" doesn't need to respect you, he is your boss and you should respect him and stop making excuses for not doing your job. Just be thankful that you have a boss that will tolerate you and that your job is so easy.

I agree with your friend. There have been no reported cases of fetal/baby deformality due to photo copies, however there are still covered fields that we don't know about. Tell your boss your concerns and ask him to limit your usage of the photo-copier.
