When was the last time you heard of a gas/petrol station going up in flames due to a lit cigerette...never, that's when...

Is there any proof at all that gas/petrol is even flammable? There are stickers everywhere warning us, but no one ever gets blown up...

The oil tankers never blow up, they just crash and spread their oil into the local sea bird populations...see what I am saying, it is just a cunning ruse to stop us from smoking...

Politicians! tsk!!

I think that these laws smack of the Nanny State kind of Mentality that is ruining these countries of ours

Why stop at gas stations? When was the last time you heard of a cinema burning down because of smoking? Or a train crash caused by smokers? Or a plane crash? Or a restaurant crash? In fact, when was the last time you heard of ANYTHING bad happening because of smoking?

When will people realise that smoking is not only hard and cool, it is also entirely safe?

I agree with OLD GRUMPY and TERRIER (Happy New Year OG + T Hope you have a great 2012) Alcohol is the biggest contributor to social dysfunction and illness in existence - where is the alcohol ban ????? Where I live (on a Mediterranean Island) they ignore the ban despite the threat of heavy fines. The smoking ban was introduced - I quote > "so that staff working in pubs do not have to breath in the smoke - passive smoking" < I do however respect the non smokers desire for fresh air - but even they are suffering trough the closure of pubs and clubs with only Wetherspoons gaining from it all. The non smokers said - I quote > "good, stop the smoking then we (the non smokers) will use the pubs and restaurants more "< well they did not. Now we have all lost from the breakdown of town facilities. As for hunting - I dont care what a load of rich country gentry do on horseback. They seem a nice bunch to me.

As long as gas is flammable, there is the possibility that a lit cigarette will light a fire, and spark a fuel explosion. This can happen with liquid gas, as well as gas fumes, also. It is not worth the risk.

Relaxing this law will increase the chance that such an adverse event will happen, and if the laws are relaxed, we definitely will see more of these events occurring.

It is a simple matter to walk away from the gas and gas pumps, and then light a match, lighter, cigarette, cigar, pipe, etc...

It's not the gas that is flammable, it's the fumes. If you want to light a cigarette up at a gas station, be my guest. I don't live next one.
