I've been working at London Underground for a few years now and have just received an app form for train operator, what should I write? The questions are very vague. My imaginations not the greatest at these things. Thanks for detailed answers!!!!

I've actually had the experience of travelling in the driver's compartment of an underground train and admire anyone who wants to do the job. It requires concentration in very tedious surroundings with nothing to relieve the monotony. It requires attention to detail, as you have to stop the train in exactly the right place. You have at the same time to be resourceful and quick witted, as in some of the overground stations idiotic people fool around and pretend to throw people onto the rails. (I once saw the face of a tube driver when this happened and shall never forget it.) You might also need to intervene when someone pulls the communication handle and have to use your resourcefulness in dealing with the situation. I think it helps to have a clear speaking voice for the rare occasions when you have to make an announcement. So, all in all: cool, calm and collected and able to enjoy a job without human contact and keep your wits about you despite the monotony. Good luck! We need people like you!

Without the form it's hard to see exactly what they want. I would suggest saying it's the oppurtunity you have been waiting for to advance your career within the company. That you would take it as a great chance to continue working for London Underground.

The most important thing you need to stress has a lot in common with adverts about horses for sale. You need to state that you are '100% bomb proof'. It is up to you if you also wish to say that you are easy to box and shoe, and good in traffic.

you need to sell yourself and really make out that u are the best person for the job!! You need to draw on your qualities - ie customer service, team player etc!!
