They should extend their new political power to reflect the will of the people.
All politicians need to get off the rhetorical carousel and work for the people they are supposed to represent.
Your question almost sounds like you want the same old thing. Hope I'm mis-reading.

Wow, this is really a funny thing to address, but it's true. The Republicans did afford the Dems more of a voice than the rules of the House (and the Senate) entitled them too, and got flak for doing it. But now the Republicans of the house are in a position that does not guarantee them anything beyond their vote. I would like to believe that the Dems will extend the Republicans the same courtesies they enjoyed since '94. You pose a very good question. I obviously think they should, but there is nothing requiring them to do so!

Yeah, they should give just as little. Also, since the republicans decided to waste the last term of Clinton's office with impeachment over a BJ, an investigation of Bush and co.'s handling of the Iraq war is a serious option.
The other, better option is to keep passing laws for Bush to veto. If the laws passed aren't too far out in left field, the Dems could really make the GOP look bad if Bush decides to veto bills that appear good to the people next election. Dems shouldn't push too far to center though, they need to make Bush make some choices in when he is going to veto bills, and need to make real gains in legislation when he doesn't.

Historically they've not shown willingness to co-operate with Republicans....only arrogant opposition
The Dem's should extend the same courtesy...but it's very doubtful that they will.
The Dems are famous for having double-standards....
Remember Waco? If the G.O.P. had been responsible for the slaughter there, the Dems would still screaming about that...but because the Dems. engineered & carried out that butcher of American citizens (on our soil, no less) it's almost like it never happened. Ever wonder about that???

I think we should take the high road. Not that we should give them any committee chairs or anything. But, we should push a more moderate agenda so we have a better chance of winning in 2008.

LOL... let the backstabbing-political-craziness begin. I have to say I am pleased with the results... and I just hope it will work out. A change was needed... but will it happen? Ah... there's a question... hehehehe.
