They should be fazed out over a time and the Government should set a standard of quality and price, which they will not do, so as to stop rip offs once they are the only ones, as for the moment they are very expensive to the consumer and not very bright either,

Is the government really thinking about this?

I haven't heard this before, but if they are then I approve as long as it comes in after the current stock of old light bulbs is sold.

They may cost more but they last longer and use less energy. I don't particularly agree with the nanny state, but this is one area I do think they should intervene.

I just hope that if they ever invent shoes that will recharge batteries when they walk that the government will promote those too and that might cut down on all these re-chargers we need.

Also, there is a technology whereby you can recharge batteries from your computer when you are using it. They should promote that too.

It's a good idea in principle but they would then have to ban dimmer switches as well as these do not work with energy saving bulbs. We moved in to our current house and it had dimmer switches. I'd much rather use energy saving light bulbs but it's simply not an option and I couldn't afford to change the dimmers. I'm moving monday so it will no longer be a problem but the government needs to think about this as well.

The weird thing is they are supposed to last like 10 years or so but manufactures put flaws in the blubs so they fail after a few year and hence its actually more expensive to buy energy efficient ones that the stand ones!

I hate this government, but these so called Green taxes that will crucify me for being a driver, i actually don't mind. We have to do something about the environment now, if i'm going to pay taxes it might as well be for something that is worthwhile.

Can't we just ban the government and live in peace?

Why not? low energy light bulbs are excellent and so much cheaper to use.
I have them in all my lights.
