The tilt of the Earth causes the temperatures on the northern and Southern halves to fluctuate through the year, causing seasons; without them, parts of the planet would ALWAYS be hot and some parts to ALWAYS be cold, which would make less area of the planet comfortable to live in and affect weather over the rest.

Imagine what it would be like if the Earth only had a strip of land to the north and south of the Equator to live in comfortably, where it would be Spring year-round...

...but - while the farther North and South regions were like Alaska - and the Equator was all African jungle...

I'm not sure if it's important, but it gives us the four seasons.
