Because Jamie has more apples than Sally, over twice as much more, and you know Sally isn't going to stand for that.
Maybe they should just make applesauce and share it.
Edit: Ever think that it's word problems like these which help instill greed in kids at an early age? It makes them aware that, "Hey, they have more than me. What do I do about that?"
Edit2: I'm gladly you wrote "shut up and eat" instead of "shut their mouths and eat", which would be impossible to do but is something my mother would say all of the time.
Edit3: I once did a cartoon where a kid is taking a test and the question reads:
"If John has five apples and Ted has seven oranges, then what is the meaning of the Universe?"
The kid stares at this question and says to himself, "I think I'm going to flunk math this year".
