It's more common now than it used to be.. I gave birth to my son when I was nineteen and to my daughter 4 years later... I love being a young mom... When both my kids are in college I'm only going to be 40... And I guess woman my age will be having babies!! kudos to those woman that have newborns at 40, but I wouldn't want it..

times are changing. It's more common nowadays then it was say 30 or 40 years ago. Many woman are waiting until they are established in a career before starting a family. Although risk of birth defects is greater.

I don't think it is real common, but it certainly isn't unheard of. I would just monitor the pregnancy closely under the care of a good obstetrician and go from there.
These things really come down to where you are in life and what your goals are. My wife and I are 42 and 41. We have a 13 year old son and an 11 year old girl and we can't wait for the nest to be empty. I will gladly hold your baby, but you can be the one up with him at 3 a.m., not me. But each his own. Best wishes to you on this.

My sister-in-law had her first baby at the age of 40. She is almost 45 now. Since then she has tried several time to get pregnant again and has had 3 or 4 miscarriages. I think she has finally given up on trying to have a another baby.

altough risks of down syndrome are higher,a woman has nothing to worry about if she gets the propper medical care, takes folic acid and prenatal vitamins, gives up bad habits and goes to her monthly appt.
