Ok so for years now I've had dreams about being chased. Either being chased by someone that wants to kill me, or someone that's going to rape me and then kill me. Or at least that's what I'm thinking they are going to do...

The whole dream I'll be trying to outrun them, and outsmart them. Usually when they are about to catch me, I'll just escape free and that's when I'll wake up.

Weird, I know... Well, I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what this would mean. It's been happening for many years now... I don't even know how long ago but it was so long ago...

It's not that I'm running from anything, I know that (besides that's a little too obvious don't you think?). So please don't tell me that's it. And I don't think it means I'm being chased by someone (wouldn't I know if someone was after me? Haha). Any other ideas would be great though. Thanks everyone! I'm just trying to make sense of this!

Dreaming that you are being chased means that you are avoiding a situation that you do not think is conquerable. It is often a metaphor for some form of insecurity. In particular, to dream that you are chased by an animal, represents your own unexpressed and unacknowledged anger which is being projected onto that animal. Alternatively, you may be running away from a primal urge or fear. Dreaming that you are chasing someone means that you are attempting to overcome a difficult goal or task. You may also be expressing some aggressive feelings toward others.

Being chased = being criticized or disciplined
Outsmart / outrun them = struggled to reject
Escape free = not giving up

In your case, you probably have some sort of issues about some high authorities that you do not like. Perhaps, you do not like to be criticized or disciplined or simply you do not like to be told what to do. By projecting outsmart or outrun them shows that you have eagerness to fight for your right and you want to control over something that is not in your area. In other words, in reality you may have something you do not like to see or know about, but you stay in the course and struggle about it. Your dream reveals how you handle things and personalities on things that may hurt your pride. Examine your life and see if that is the case, if so, that is coming out from your subconscious mind and reflects your helpless conscience sometimes.

It basically means your problems are overwhelming you...take a break. When I was younger and less confident I had these same dreams constantly. The only difference in my dream was that quite often in my dreams I was very little in size and everything car, people, houses etc. were huge in size...I mean like skyscrapers. And while they chased me to do me harm, imagine a tractor trailer 50 stories high, I always managed to find my way back to reality, normal size tractor trailers and such, and woke up refreshed and more confident and ready to meet that day head on, no matter what came.

Hope I didn't blow your mind...and that this helps you in some way.

Sometimes nightmares like this are just caused my general stress. Maybe you can try relaxing somehow. Also, sometimes nightmares are caused by eating certain foods (typically spicey) close to the time you go to sleep.

You can run, but you can't hide. You are probably going to meet your end in the above described scenario. It is your fantasy to have this weird stuff happen to you. You will pursue it and the rest will be history.

Have you thought about not sleeping anymore?
Not sure about the dream... just paranoia or something.
