I had a company in to clean my sofa and he spilt 1 litre of water onto my laminate flooring - causing it to bubble beyond repair.
I have agreed to pay £90 towards the cost of the laminate (as it has wear and tear) and he is to pay the rest plus get it fitted professionally and remove the old flooring.

Do you think this is an acceptable deal or am I being taken for a ride??

It was their fault that the floor is damaged! Wear, and tear has nothing to do with the fact that they caused the damage to your flooring. They should replace it at their own cost, and not just the spot that was damaged, but the entire floor, because it needs to match, and look aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Contact your insurance company, and file a claim against them. They are liable for the damage caused, not you!

I'm surprised the company is willing to help at all. I don't understand you having to pay for wear and tear though, how long would your laminate have lasted without this spill? It's the guys fault for ruining it.They are supposed to have insurance for things like this. They need to pay for the whole thing. Before this happened, were you wanting a new floor?

Without knowing the size of the floor/ and the amount being replace. It's kind of hard to answer this.

Personally, You're getting the better end of the deal if you're having your entire floor replaced for 90. However If he's just fixing the floor then you're getting the bad end of the deal.

However, you would probably spend more than 90 seeking legal action against this individual.

Look at it this way, you're having your floor remodeled for cheap!

You are correct that you have to account for wear and tear. They won't be installing used and worn laminate, but new. Some of that cost should be born by you.

If they could get it back to the exact condition before the spill, then it would be something you could expect no cost from, but you have to expect not to get something free (new vs used) because of someone elses mistake. I know it's something you wouldn't want to fork over when you're not counting on the expense, but it's both accepted practice and something you'd run into if it went to court.

they need to pay for the entire thing.
why did they guy spill a litre of water onto your flooring? for what purpose? an accident? the company has insurance for things like this. on purpose? the company has insurance for this, too.

if you pay anything, you are saying this is partly your fault. and any judge will see it.

and you get what you want. don't let them tell you how much you can spend. if they say they will pay for something comperable, then you get an upgrade because this was not your fault. it was the company's.

It depends on the amount of wear and tear but yes it soulds like a good deal for you. Make sure that he is using a licensed professional to install it and a grade of laminate that is at least comparable to what you had.

you are being taken advantage of!!!! their mistake their responsibility to correct NO COST TO YOU!!!
If they wont file a formal complaint and force their insurance to correct it... wear on the floor prior to the incident has no bearing in this instance.

I believe that it's acceptable, but I would try and get them to pay for the whole thing.
