Interesting question. Forget, for just a moment if you can, the atrocities of the Hitler regime. Hitler brought prosperity back to a floundering Germany. Under is initial reign, Germans went from abject poverty to having jobs and food and prosperity. It wasn't until they discovered his megalomania that the wheels fell off and his true nature was discovered.

So to answer your question, it's quite possible that many people would vote for him if they knew nothing about his true nature and only the political promises he made.

Not a fair comparison. Weimar Germany (Pre-Hitler German Republic) was more or less impoverished and illegals were not a serious problem. What was a problem was the Weimar republic's inability to get Germany out of the economic, social and political malaise Germany had been in since 1919.
Hitler achieved success because he convinced millions of Germans that he had the solution for ALL of Germany's ills.

But that just isnt possible now is it? Hilter would have had to be a senator, a governor, or a house rep. usually in USA to win a primary to run for president. If ever, for any election, is an unknown, a guy off the street elected for any office, even a mayor, so we would have to know something of his character, and actions to elect him. People just dont elect anybody they dont know something about. So, no, I wouldn't.

Not my vote but that is because Hitler was a National Socialist - essentially a liberal who planned spend the nation into prosperity. It works for awhile and then the money has to come from somewhere else - so it was just 'the next step' to invade nations and take over other people's property. He added one more step and took his socialist leadership into the realm of dictatorship. So - the very liberal Democrats would see a "Hitler" in a pretty good light because he would promise them proseperity with government control and largesse. I think most Republicans would see through that.

yeah without a doubt, the German nation knew very little about his true aims, only that he promised to drag a depressed Germany into a new age of prosperity, which he did at first. then he went a bit mental, created world war 2 and the vw beetle!

But... when he was campaigning he flat out spoke about the problems of the country being the fault of Western Countries and the Jewish Community.

So telling us NOT to hear any of those initial signs is unfair.

I would not have voted for him. Hitler was a right wing Fascist... Very similar to today's Neo-Con Republicans. I do think Hitler was smarter than Bush is in that he moved quickly to eliminate the opposition and consolidate power.

Thats how he was voted in...The extensive reform package he proposed and then implemented.
He appealed to the poor the downtrodden and promised wealth and health.
Hmmm sounds familiar.

I guess history repeats itself.....but no based on my personal status in life....I wouldn't.

Slightly daft question 'cos nobody with any sense votes for anybody on a single issue. Yr politicians have to give you a range of all sorts that they intend doing and you have to "average" it out to get a final answer. (If you'll forgive the pun)
