Of course murderers must receive extremely severe sentences, but the idea that the state, rightly, outlaws murder but then kills it's citizens seems wrong. And what if they turn out to be innocent, like Stefan Kiszko who spent 16 years in jail before it was found he was definitley not guilty, and only had one more year of freedom before he died? How do you say "sorry, we got it wrong" to a corpse? Ask the Guildford Four. Ask others who have successfully appealed against murder convictions. We don't always get it right, and as long as that possibility of wrong conviction exists it is indefensible to take that life of the person the state (for the time being?) believes is guilty.

I am for capital punishment if there is no doubt that the criminal is guilty. I do not feel that we, as taxpyaers, should have to support them for the rest of their lives in prison. Our prisons are over-crowded anyway. And that would also keep less criminals in there to be a threat to our prison guards. And if a convicted killer is dead, there is no chance for escape. I mean, look at Alcatraz. It was supposed to be inescapable, right? They shut it down, why? Because someone escaped and they never found the body. If they can do it there, they can do it anywhere.

I believe it should be brought back, post haste. As it is the only thing to cure this countries crime, yob, and justice problems properly.
I also belive that all of our political parties are melding into one, and any party that took a stand and vowed to see a return to capital punishment, would see a land slide election victory !!
