To say that they are old enough to give their life for their country but not old enough to drink is ridiculous. Proof of current or past active duty in a hostile fire zone should be provided to these young men and women and it should be acceptable as proof of legal age to drink (or smoke) as they desire. It isn't a question of whether it's 'good' for them, they have earned the right to make that decision for them selves.

doesn't even matter if they are serving, but that is the way most people try to make this point. how about 19 like canada for smoking, gambling, and drinking that way it doesn't allow high school seniors the opportunity, but grown adults can make this choice
