water has an anamalous behaviour. normally substances contract on cooling but water behavs in an opposite way meaning they expand on freezing
at a very low temperature water freezes and expands.therefore the water pipes lines burst at very low temperatures. same with glass bottles containing water kept in a freezer explodes.

Have you ever put A soda in the freezer and forgot about it?
When water freezes it expands, and after it expands and contracts A few times then the pipes weakens and bursts.

Water reaches its maximum density at 4 degrees Celsius, just above the freezing point, then expands somewhat as solid crystals form. If this didn't happen ice would sink: there would be no floating icebergs and no ice-skating in winter.
