When the government first started to crack down on health and safety laws for the construction industry it was a good thing.

For example making sure everbody wears hard hats, that secure scaffolding was in place for workers etc etc.

But know that all the common sense health and safety has been took care of they seem to spend their time coming up with more anal rules day by day.

Anybody that has worked in construction in Britain is more than likely to have a tale of some stupid H+S rule that actually makes there work more diffucult.

So maybe it now time to get disband these guys or at the very least stop them from creating rules just to keep them in a job?.

it has gone over the top in part, but we live in a society that is getting more like america in relation to everyone sues anybody for gain..... there a natural response .... they covr themselves on everything, and if they find something they haven't got covered then they'll add a law!...

just because they exist they need not adhere to them,... if you don't want to wear steel top capped boots for example, then thats your decision, if the company have provided such them and you chose not to wear them and a slab of contrete crushes your toes.... you don't have a leg to stand on!.... and your left with a busted foot...

so they are there for a reason.

up to people whether they want to run the risk

The civil servants would be out of the job if someone thought their work was 'complete'. So to justify their existence they MUST continue to create more rules regularly. The same goes for all government departments. Sad but true.

It's like every other Government department once set up it has to justify it's formation by continually tinkering with things that should be left to common sense!

my husband would be out of a job...anyway for your info, it's not them that thinks up the new laws, it's that bone of contention called the EEC..or rather, it's the unelected officials who work for the EEC with nothing better to do than to think up all the ludicrous laws for us phlebs to adhere to...why us, cuz no one else seems to take any notice of them!

It's gone mad...they need to be put in check...it does make things more complicated and wastes a hell of a lot of time. It's a job for raincoat wearing clipboard carriers.

Yes, it has provided this government with endless excuses to tell us to do things for our own good. It's a good control mechanism. I call it institutionalised nagging.
