Alright, so I am a little panicked about the special I saw on History Channel last night "Mega Disasters" about Mr. Rainier erupting. I am almost in the path of the mudslide that would ensue. I want to prepare for this event, should it happen while I live here. I am thinking of items I should purchase that will help me and my girl survive. Here is what I have so far:

Gas Masks / Extra filters
Wet weather gear
Food (MRE's) & Water
Waterproof matches/fire starters
Tent / Poncho's / Tarps
Small inflatable raft

Can you think of anything else that would be usefull?

I recommend a motorcycle which can get you and your girl out of there in a hurry.

rather contained in relation to Pinatubo. uncertain contained in relation to Mt. Rainier's final eruption as no person grew to become into around to checklist its final eruption. although, Rainier is very resembling St. Helens, approximately 40 miles south so like St. Helens it has and probable will erupt in a pyroclastic flow observed via somewhat a lot of ash and little magma.

You forgot the most important thing...an exit strategy. The items you listed will not save your life. There are usually early warning signs, heed them. Get out then and there. Keep your gas tank filled. Have a credit card and/or money and know where to go for shelter and who to call (Red Cross/Salvation Army). Check the evacuation plans in your community (Fire/Police) Be prepared and once learned stop worrying about it ...it may never happen in your lifetime.

Hopefully , you'll have enough forewarning to get out of the area in time, as was the case with Mt. Saint Helens....that eruption blew out of the side of the mountain.
Wherever you run too, stay away from the path of the prevailing winds.

If Rainier erupts and you can't get out of the way quick enough, then you're pretty much screwed.
