What are we facing?

Sounds like a boogie man to me. You can't be saved from any boogie man.

What we do have is a whole area of the world that hates our guts more than 6 years ago because of what we've let our leaders do.

A change can only help.

Yes, it is in rapid decline. The reason is that our "leaders" are for the most part not terribly talented in leading and many are on the take and will do anything to hang onto their perks. The end will come when the current young people have been so zoned out on electronics that thinking is something foreign to them. We have lost so much political talent because of the moralists who are more concerned about someone's past than the needs of the present. Look at management in county run bureaucracies. Having been there until recently it is clear that the a ss kissers - no talent but big lips - are in charge. Wasn't that way 15+ years ago. May God help us.

This nation is NOT falling and NEVER will no matter who/whom is in or out of Office. We have weathered many wars and political change since 1776. A political change only means that issues will be addressed by different people with different ideas. Just as the people spoke during this past election, they will speak also for the future. I was once a "Barry Goldwater" Conservative and to some extent still am. I supported the "Bomb Hanoi" sector during Vietnam. I support my President and I support our troops fighting in any part of this globe. The worst thing that anyone one can do is to "give up". Just remember: Politicians are like dirty diapers. They need to be changed every once in a while.

You are right. The govenment is corrupt at all levels from county, where the "good ol boy" system is allowing incompentant workers to keep jobs at taxpayers expense, supervisiors who are clueless on how to run offices, to the Federal level where Senators and Representives of BOTH parties are out for themselves. This is evident in the annual pay raises they give themselves, the perks they get for life, even after getting voted out of office. Certainly an elitist group, which has lost touch with the common people they are supposed to represent.

Yes, America is on a downward spiral, just how far down is the question

They want us to be attacked as long as we have a republican President, just as with Katrina, they can blame the disaster on him, and Wolf Blitzer will tell us so. Planning for disaster is the responsibility by law and logic of your local municipality (ask your politician if you can), they have to ask for help, they need to know what kind of help/supplies they need and where to be delivered, especially evacuation, food and medical aid. How many know it was Clinton who did away with civil defense shelters, the equipment to detect radiation levels and medical supplies to treat exposed people? The shelters in public buildings and schools no longer exist, all kids in schools have for protection is their desks. Thank you democrats. 9/11 was possible because the air marshall program started by Reagan was lobbied against successfully by Tom Daschle's wife as too expensive for the airline industry, which is why he oddly was missing from the 9/11 Commission. And it's sort of like floods, if it doesn't effect you or someone you know, most people just don't care if a terrorist attacks happens to someone else, except of course for the news media, Hollywood writers and politicians, who are the ones who really benefit from tragedy, and encourage more by the publicity they give it.

The dems will not be happy until we are part of the north american union.
The US is slowly being wittled away by the crystal rubbing, tree hugging flower sniffers.

We are on the verge of a very hard fall. We let emotion dictate our elections that is a horrible thought. Emotion has no place in politics. We made our bed let's get ready to die in it.
