I am very disappointed by the results of the election, but I also see some upsides. Maybe the republicans will wake-up to their core values.

Here is a list of what they did wrong and how they should fix them:

1. They allowed a single congressman to almost single handedly bring down the Republican Party by not exposing his behavior when they first discovered it. Foley should have been exposed months ago.

Solution: They need to take a close look at those in the House and expose corruption whenever they find it. Don’t turn a deaf ear, but pay attention and be proactive in rooting out corruption. Republicans need to reestablish the moral high-ground. They have clearly lost it.

2. The Republicans need to pay more attention to the middle class. They have constantly ignored the need for medical care and they are doing nothing about the shift of wealth to the already super rich.

Solution: Introduce Windfall taxes when companies like Exxon take advantage of natural disasters to make ridiculous profits. Their profits should have gone to Katrina victims and not to the fat cat executives. There should be higher taxes levied against executive perks and there should be penalties in the form of higher taxes to companies where executives earn extremely high multiples of their average employee’s wages.

3. President Bush needs to fire Donald Rumsfeld. The benefits of keeping him in office are out weighted by his hard headedness and arrogance. There are lots of people that could do a good job as Secretary of Defense. Bush should have cut his losses and let Rumsfeld retire gracefully instead of being forced out of office by voters wanting change.

Solution: Rumsfeld to retire and appoint a young hard charging good communicating new leader.

4. Neither party has been able to come up with the solution for the illegal alien problem. Nearly all Americans from both parties agree that this is one of the most serious problems in America today.

Solution: Form a bipartisan committee to come up with comprehensive legislation to address the problem and then implement it fully.

Since change is what the voters wanted it disappointed me that many of the Democrats that have been part of the problem were not voted out.

There are many more things to change, but I can’t list them all here.

The Republicans need to stick to their core values, but need to make some serious changes or 2008 will look worse than last night.

Take a deep breath and calm down. This is the way we should ALL look at it To give your support to a candidate is to give your support to America and for that I would thank all who supported any candidate even if they did not make it to the finals. Most of all should be our thanks to ALL the candidates for their sacrifice and hard work to give Americans a voice in our government. I know we do not always think things are right with our system but for the time being it is what we have. I do not know many who would put out the effort expended by every candidate when they could obviously be at home and having fun on Y!Answers. But they work hard, they take a lot of kidding and are constantly traveling around the country. It takes a great sacrifice on their part not to mention the sacrifices that their families also have to make. I for one could not do it physically or mentally and know few that could or would. So I give thanks to ALL the candidates and to ALL their supporters. This my story and I'm sticking to it regardless of who wins.

I'm so glad the voters finally put G.W. in his place. I don't really want one party to take control but at least the Dems got the House and that may help keep G.W. from completely destroying our great country.

I'm quite happy. Even if the dems don't get the senate, at least now there is some sort of balance to keep Bush in check.
