Do frequent disk cleanups and defragments. I do these everday just before I shut down.
One should do a disk cleanup everyday and defrag two or three times a week if the computer is used moderately. Try this.
You may need to do a Disk Cleanup..and be sure you have all the boxes checked....
Defrafg your C drive or what ever is your
main harddrive... Make sure you have selected the C Drive.... This is called a Disk Defragmenter...
Go to : Start...
programs..
accessories...
system tools..
Do this often...

You'll have to do more than two things. You'll need to clean your computer of unnecessary files, defrag the hard drive, and close certain startup programs. After that is done, then you can consider upgrading the processor and the ram.

A short list under your startup menu and a good anti-virus software. Just from my experience those 2 things can make a world of difference!
