We worship our admins. They're great. I think they have great jobs. 9-5 hours, they come & go during the day to take care of their children's needs, they have continuing education opportunities, day care at the company, they can read/do other things when they're not busy, they get great health care benefits. And when they go home, they leave their job behind, not worrying about some deal blowing up, not worrying about getting sued over a bad decision (or worse going to jail), not worrying about having to travel to 5 different cities in 5 days, no red-eyes, etc. I envy our admins sometimes. And they are very well paid...at the right company they do very well if competent..and they don't need degrees. I can't believe how much some are paid. Especially the good ones you can't function without.
Admins are also nice because they're good sounding boards. Usually have good common-sense advice since they're not as immersed in the details of the business.
Also, they're safe behind a desk. Little risk of being shot like a cop or soldier. No operating dangerous machinery. No getting greasy. No getting your hair caught in a treshing machine & getting decapitated. No risk of being gored by a beast like a cattle farmer. No feeding the chickens at the crack of dawn. No spending months at sea and seasick in a decaying ship like a fisherman. You get my point.

The worst thing is that as I ADVANCED in my career, management was more and more administrative in nature. Checking schedules, budgets etc. I hate it and prefer not to be in management.
It has to be done and is not demeaning. IT is necessary and important. You don't want to run out of things or have the account balance wrong. It must be done and accurately. It's just difficult for me to keep track of things. Some people might have a knack. YOu need a different profession or better organizational skills.

I am an Administrative Asst. and for the most part, enjoy my job. I make decent money. I know people with a four year degree that don't make as much as I do.

yeah you work behind the scenes and the only time you get noticed is the one time you forget to fill in someone info.
And all for minimum wage, great isn't it.
Not exactly what i got a degree for.

I'm sure some people don't mind....but it's not my cup of tea either. I'd look into changing career paths.......Find something that you enjoy and interest's you. At least it's better than retail (in my opinion).

i am reading an english book and they refer to office work as 'admin'. i assume that is what you mean. i love those tasks. i love keeping things orderly and neat. i am fortunate in that my job has a wide variety of activities, but the paperwork is fun for me. to each his own...thankfully. good luck finding something that suits you better.

i always find middle management a comfortable position to be in
you get most of the manager perks, and when a problem arises that you don't want to deal with ( like a-hole customers)you can say- just a moment, let me get the manager for you :-)
it has always served me well
