She is doing a lot to try to get business to Michigan again. She is smart enough to realize the big industries that were centered in Michigan are gone for good, and what remains looks iffy.

The economic development group is pouring a lot of money into recruiting jobs for the state. The US unemployment is 4.5 percent, but there are parts of MI where it is closer to 7.5.

She is one of the few incumbents running for office that deserved to win.

I think she's done what she could for what was thrown at her 4 years ago. Yes - Michigan's ecnomy is HORRIBLE but the rest of the world isn't doing as well as it used to. Blame than on GW! Everyone everywhere is srtuggling more than they have in a while but things will get better regardless of who is governor. If people would just hang in there it will pay off. Michigan will be booming again sometime soon. Have a little faith!

When the Republicans start to realize that the success of Michigan depends on creating real solutions (not just tax incentives that don't trickle down), they may have a chance in this state.

But, the key is not tax incentives and job exports. It's not just about holding failing schools accountable.

It's about providing solutions for students that have a difficult time being successful.
It's about providing opportunities to get through the barriers for employment and helping these parents prepare for jobs that pay more than poverty-level wages.
It's about realizing that health care insurance is too expensive for the majority of people and it's rising faster than inflation
It's about realizing that tax cuts are not the solution.
It's about realizing that Michigan needs to diversity its economy and that is not a quick fix.
It's about providing real incentives for small business owners, including training initiatives.

When republicans (whose wife believes an $8 per hour job can support a family) start listening to the needs of the least of these and providing real solutions for these individuals (not just "figure it out and get a job"), and does it for several years, then you may once again win people back.

Until then, count on those of us who care about the least of these voting for people who do care.

She said it herself- in 5 years we will be blown away.

Will the last business to leave Michigan please shut down Fermi II?

In the meantime, there is currently a huge market for grief counselors in the Ann Arbor area, at least until Jenny finds a way to overturn the Prop 2 results.

She didn't merit re-election, but one should never underestimate the stupidity of the American electorate.
