Discovery Cable Stations is owned by Discovery Communications.

Discovery Communications is a publicly listed joint-venture. The JV was started by John Malone (Liberty Media), Advance/Newhouse (e.g. Conde Naste, GQ, Wired), Cox Communications and the original CEO (John Hendricks).

You can own part of Discovery Communications through Discovery Holdings, which Liberty Media (LMG.A) spun off. Like its progentor, it has two classes of stock (DISCA and DISCB).
Discovery Holdings is listed on NASDAQ.

The parent company is called Discovery Communications, Inc. I was surprised to see that the networks aren't owned by Turner or Disney.
