It goes by your height. Short skis for control, long skis for speed. So you need to have a good relationship with your dealer.

If you are starting out you may want to go a little shorter for more control and to get the feel of the boards. But always your best bet is to go to the local Ski shop and ask. Skis are being made a lot smaller than 10 years ago so you may even find a pair and size that will stay with you as you grow. The longer the ski and less shape the faster the ski is going to go down the hill. (Been skiing for 20 years, but now I snowboard). Also the bigger the shape, the more likely the ski will want to turn on you, so you may want something that does not have such a big curve until you get the hang of controlling the skis. Good luck and have fun
