there are several factors with mice. Don't keep it in a carboard box while you wait for supplies, he'll be gone before morning and free roaming your home. I would recommend using a plastic conatiner, if you have a rubbermaid storage tub around, that would work. Mice will eat just about anything, however if you want him/her to stay healthy then give it a few rolled oats, a carrot, or if you have some rice, you can boil it or steam it. As for bedding, shredded newspaper is great, it's warm and they can tear it up. I usually go to the local grocery or gas station and grab a couple free papers, they work just fine. You can use a tupperware lid with a tiny bit of water in it so it can drink too.

For later on, I would invest in a used fish tank, the best place to find these are in the paper or garage sales. Sometimes the local thrift store has a decent fish tank for under $10. A screened top for the tank is the best way to go, plenty of ventilation, and they're not too much money. A hanging water bottle is the cleanest and easiest way to go, you can usually pick one up for less than $5. A heavy bottomed or ceramic dish about the size of a lemon is just fine for one mouse, usually found for less than $5. The shredded newspaper is the best way to go as far as money. If you have the money, then sawdust or hay would work better, and it's warmer for them. As far as toys go, the all time favorite mouse wheel is good, and you don't need a large one. Toilet paper rolls are fun for them too, basically anything they can hide in or run all over.
