As long as you haven't tried to instal any older operating system for a multi boot pc... or you haven't tried to move hard drives around, or play with the configurations in the bios.
I'd go and try pcar964 solution.. detailed solutions and support pages.
if that does not work then you will have to use the Rovery Console on the XP disc to first run a chkdsk to look for possible corruption on the hard drive then use the help command to show the boot record repair comands and file allocation rebuild commands (sorry i cant remember what they are exactly called but the help command will show them look at the source page).... and as a last resort you can use the Repair option, you can choose this just before you reinstall xp... you will see a menu saying something along the lines of " or choose R to repair chosen installation"... last resort as it is possible to loose data this way.
its bit of an indepth process.. if you are not sure it maybe worth saving some money and getting a shop to do it.. but 9 time out of 10 they just reinstall anyway... so find a good one that will go that extra bit to get your information off.
good luck!

You'll need to re-install the OS (Windows XP). This can be done without losing any of your information. Take it to computer tech.
You will need your OEM Windows XP CD.
It's a good thing you backed up your stuff just in case :)
