Hey as every one know it is a virus. but here is how you you can get rite of this.
if this virus in in your PC. you will not be able to use the regedit and the task manager will be disabled.
1. you need to get into the registry editory. to do this you need to download hijackthis you can download it from this URL:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=3155&file=11&evp=3304750663b552982a8baee6434cfc13
Once you download this you need to run this and do a system scan. look for regisrty lock and check it and choose fix checked. you may select every thing and choose fix selected.
Once you do this you will be able to go to registry., for the ppl who dont know registry click Start and RUN and type regedit and go to the following location.
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-790525478-XXXXXX\
Software\yahoo\pager\profiles\
(your profile here Eg. harishlds)\Custom Msgs
Once you come here delet the entries on the right side of the screen. make sure you delete every enties exepct the default( you will not be able to delet the default). make sure you have deleted it from the other profiles also if you have any.
Now ever thing is fixed for you...

I have the same issue with my friend's computer.
This issue persists when you click on a malicious HTML URL send to you...it is like the same that your messenger is sending to every one in your contact list....
When you click on the URL the HTML script is executed to load trojans in the computer.
The only best solution is to perform System Restore, this will restore the settings to an earlier date chosen by you...
For more information on performing system restore , visit :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084/
Also, kindly notify your friends in the contact list not to click on any link that is being sent on your id..

Yes it is a trojan of some sort.
I suggest you uninstall, delete and reinstall Yahoo messenger and see if it fixes it.
Also run your antivirus software to ensure there're no trojans or such around.
You can always try the web based version at http://messenger.yahoo.com/webmsgr/fmsgr.php , or download one of those programs for multiple services, such as Trillian.
