I'd ask the student what is she interested in (social dancing? better movement? better fitness?), what are her objectives (professional danecer? recreational dancer?), what does she find attractive about dancing?

Depending on the answer, I'd recommend ballet, modern, ballroom, jazz, tap. I don't think there is a universal answer to this question. Yeah, ballet is the best as foundation and is wonderful just by itself, but not everyone would go for it.

I would suggest starting with ballet. I think that ballet teaches the fundamentals of dance and other forms of dance typically build off of the skills and terminology that are used in ballet classes. Once a student is comfortable with ballet, they can move on to other forms of dance knowing that they will have the technique to get involved with the new type. Jazz would be the next progression in my mind b/c it really draws off of the training received in ballet but it also allows you to move on to modern or hip hop/funk in the future.

I would suggest ballet. Because ballet has the technique that every other dance requires and even if they might not like it believe me it is worth it. I have been dancing ballet for 12 year. Later on I started dancing jazz, lyrical, and contemporary and now I just need some lesson for hip hop. ;-)

as a dancer i would say Irish Dance. I did ballet for 7 years, tap for 6, jazz for 5, and hip hop for 4 and I just didn't really like it that much. Irish Dance is very technical, but also leaves room for freedom. Plus its unusual and not very many people do it. I would definatly suggest that...I've been doing it for 6 years and I am absolutly in love with it !

As a dance teacher, I would suggest Ballet because it is very technical which the technique will help you out when you study other styles of dance. Ballet is a wonderful workout for the whole body. I hope that I helped you out.

If you want something that is fairly easy and nontechnical, I would suggest jazz/hiphop. If you want something more classical, ballet of course. Jazz gives faster results, however. Tap is fun, as well, and requires more discipline than most believe. It pretty much depends on how long you want to dance, and how serious you want to get about it.

Jazz could be an stunning place to start up! with the aid of fact jazz is the inspiration for hip hop, you will locate it less complicated to p.c.. up hip hop as quickly as you have the basics of jazz mastered. what's likewise good approximately jazz is that it particularly is bearing directly to widespread it particularly is the greater elementary type of cutting-edge. cutting-edge is a sub-type of cutting-edge, like the daughter of cutting-edge. cutting-edge is extremely problematic to stipulate and subsequently, it particularly is extremely problematic to ever have a updated type that conforms to each and all of the cutting-edge kinds. when you triumph over jazz, you ought to take some cutting-edge instructions to get the feel of cutting-edge. it's going to enhance your foundation in jazz and prepare you some greater moderen procedures. you will enhance your base guidance considering you mustn't be taking any ballet instructions it particularly is the backside for all kinds. an stunning type to absorb case you detect them on your section (probable isn't a ordinary type that meets as quickly as a week) is circulate Improvisation (and/or touch Improvisation). It loosens up the physique and get your imaginitive juices flowing. the matters with ballet/jazz/cutting-edge is that its rigid and frequently set in technique. cutting-edge is achieved via dancing your expression and shifting to speak. in case your movements are rigid and there is not any creativity, your cutting-edge solo/duets/performances won't look as good. in case you are able to no longer detect a circulate improv type, purely swap on cutting-edge dance track (Elisa, Adele, an outstanding Frenzy, Damien Rice, and so on) and flow although the track drives you to. Channel the emotion of the music and locate uncomplicated how you are able to exhibit it. in spite of if purely on your mattress room.
