While it is to some extent hypocritical, parents and teachers rarely intentionally deceive their children. The "lies" they tell (which usually amount to not telling the whole truth, rather than completely fabricating something) are in the parents' view for the child's own good.
As to the rest of your comment, no it is not unrealistic to expect the truth. In the vast majority of dealings between people of all ages, the truth is expected and given. Children need to learn the difference between truth, falsehood, and partial truths, and they need to learn that in most cases truth is better than any of its alternatives.

Parents often tell lies to their children to be rid of them if they feel that the children bother them. It is always OK to lie if it doesn't affect a situation much or if it will save someone from unfair punishment. A lie can sometimes be worth a thousand truths in the second case mentioned above. But honesty is extremely important in certain situations. It is really your choice of where to be honest and where not to be that matters. I can only say this much

Yes, I absolutely agree with that statement. While it is important to teach children to tell the truth (to establish the difference between right and wrong) it is hypocritical of adults to expect them to do what we ourselves do not. The concept of "do as i say not as i do" has become all to familiar these days. How can we expect children to go against what they have been witnessing us do since their birth?

Yes, I have to agree with your statement. Truth is very hard for anyone 100% of the time. But maybe what we are looking for is honesty when it comes to really important things, and we shouldn't worry so much about the small stuff.
