A friend of mine wore his suit with the designer label on the left sleeve. He was told to tear off the lable, that it was not right to leave it there. My friend thinks that the label should be left there to show the class and quality of suit he is puting on

The suit may be classy, but his refusing to take off the label shows HE'S not classy enough for the suit!
It's just another form of name dropping, and really ridiculous in real life. Get him to take the label off before he has too much fallout from NOT doing it!

Absolutely not. TACKY. The cut and the design of the suit will show the class and quality. The best way to look NOT quality or class would be to leave the label on.
Do you remember the old show HeeHaw? and the character Minnie Pearl, who always had a price tag on her hat? Same thing; tacky.

I teach at an inner city school in downtown Baton Rouge. Many of my students do this on free dress day. I think it is ridiculous. It is just bragging on how much you spent for a particular item of clothing. Plus... if you washed it, wouldn't that tag rip apart?
I think the tags are "ghetto".
I told my students I am going to buy something from Family Dollar and wear the one buck tag.
