Have you or somone close to you ever had the baby's gender predicted by ultrasound and it was wrong?

I got an ultrasound yesterday and the tech said I'm having a boy!!! I didn't care either way, but a friend of mine wanted me to have a girl and when I showed my friend the ultrasound photos all I heard was: They're wrong!
I'm just curious how often this actually happens. (before I buy a bunch of blue stuff! lol)

I would say, if you can see the winkie it's wight!

In the olden days, before ultrasounds, (believe it or not) people actually had to wait until the baby was born...which meant lots of yellow and mint green stuff. Then everyone had to hesitantly ask of the bald-headed newborn...."um....is it a....girl? or a boy?"

It's nice you have technology to aid you, although some old folks won't believe it until they change a diaper!

My first born was a girl. I was so sure I wanted the second one to be a boy, until the doctor said "It's a girl!" I was so surprised at my own relief...in my heart of hearts it seems I really wanted a girl most of all.

Bottom line, you want a strong, healthy baby. Your child is a gift of God...when you first hold your baby and feel it's soft breath against your cheek, tears of joy will spring to your eyes, no matter what lies between their little tiny legs. I pray for your health and that of your baby and your family.

In most cases it is accurate, however...there can be a mistake. All of mine were accurate, but I have heard of people who sisn't have such luck! If the u/s image is very clear and obvious...then I say go with it. With my first child, the firt u/s we couldn't get a good pic. then on the second, the tech said the image wasn't the best, but that it appeard to be a girl...then on the 3rd ultrasound...It was very clear that she was a girl. Just depends on the position of the baby. With this pregnancy, my daughter was laying with her feet over her head and there was no mistaking it was definately a girl! I think it is more common to mistake a boy for a girl because of the positioning, but if you were told it's a boy, then obviously there was more "Tissue" present than with a girl! You could always pay to have a 4D ultrasound to do a gender check. They are fairly inexpensive and are a very cool keepsake! We had one done with this pregnancy and it is the coolest thing! Just look up 4D ultrasound in your state and check the info!
Good luck and Congrats!

Each individual situation is different as far as accuracy, but everyone I know who has had an ultrasound predict the wrong gender was told they were having a girl, who turned out to be a boy. If the Dr. or tech says it's a boy, they must have seen the evidence!!

Well first of all nothing is 100 percent but this is pretty much the closet method of finding out while pregnant besides a amnio or cvs. Usually people ask how sure the tech is and he will give you a precentage or even show you the penis! But if you feel confident in him/her shop away.

The best time to go is about 20+ weeks! But then again as ultrasounds get better and better, there less chance for a mistake. Id go shopping, just keep your recipts for your piece of mind!

Well, With my experience, there was NO mistaking my little boy! He took right after his father and was more than proud to show his herman off!!! I'm not an ultrasound tech, but even I could tell what that little thing between his legs was! haha. I still have all my ultrasound pictures and I still laugh when looking through them and I see that picture-LOL. I'm currently 10 weeks and we'll see if baby number two is as "shy" as his/her brother was!

Depends on the tech doing the ultrasound

More often they are wrong when they say it is a girl. Because, they can do an ultrasound, not see a penis and say it's a girl, but they can miss the john thomas. But if they see a penis, well they can be pretty sure it's a boy.

stop calm down !!!
i also had a scan and was told hes a boy which was quite clear ( at 17weeks )
you would not believe how many ppl have told me its wrong
i have brought everything blue coz I'm taking the word of the technician and Ive also been told that its more likely to be wrong if they say its a girl.
i paid for my scan and its worth every penny ( pound!! )
plz trust the person who did your scan if they were unsure they wouldn't tell you so id say they are 95% right OK mistakes happen but if he has balls and a winky they are hard to miss.
get off the PC and go buy loads of blue stuff!!!
good luck hunni

As always, it's a best guess. Sure, everyone is wrong sooner or later, but as ultrasounds get better, the wrong guesses get more infrequent.
Never buy all the clothes.
