His rudeness maybe a cover for him to feel cool with his friends. Act the same way toward him but don't over do it. Rude communication is better than no communication. After a while, the rudeness will get worse and then get better after the newness of it wears off. Once he is used to talking to you, if he wants you, he will get the nerve to ask you out. His friends may know that he wants you before you do. He will want their reaction before being nice to you in front of them and chance feeling dufus.

Wellllll! what do you have in common, the school period. Maybe you could get him interested in a conversation over what happen in school today? something at the library like, a study period, don't laugh. The first time I met my wife, I through her shoe on the roof of the house. She hated me. After about 3 months of harrassment, she went out with me. We have been together for over twenty years. She still hates me sometimes though ;)
