If so, why don’t the antibodies bind and knock off the venom in the snake? Also, why and how does the snake develop the antibodies (provided it DOES make them)? Or is the mechanism of self-protection based on a zymogenic form of the venom being secreted? If one were to inject a particular snake's venom back into it, would it die?

Snake venom is produced by parotid gland. It is neurotoxic and hemotoxic.Sometimes when snakes are compelled to underdog fasting, then in starving condition they commit suicide by biting their own body. This goes to show that they are susceptible to their own venom. The venom has to go the blood stream to produce the effect.
