The Presidential election is in 2008, but you will probably start hearing about the those who plan to run for president now since the Senate and Representative races are over, as of yesterday.
The Presidential term is 4 years and he can be reelected once for a second term for a total of 8 years.
President Bush was initially elected in November, 2000, so yes he was in office at the time of the 9/11 attack; it was just a little under his one year anniversary.
Anybody that calls you a stupid retard is really one themselves. There is no such thing as a dumb question if you don't know or don't understand the answer.
I give you a lot of credit for asking this question on Yahoo Q&A.

Presidential Elections are held every 4 years. GW was elected in 2000, then again in 2004. Thankfully, due to federal law, a president can only serve 2 consecutive terms. So no more Bush after 2008. But who is to say that he won't try to run again in 2012 if he isn't jailed for his war crimes.

The actual presidential election will be in 2008, but you'll start seeing campaigning in the next couple months, since the race is wide open.

It starts full blast today but it's been going on for almost a year.
Look at Hillary and Obama and Edwards, McCain, Giulliani and Lieberman! All have been doing the 'presidential' thing. Even the NY Times reported today, it'll be Hillary/Obama versus McCain/Giulliani.
Unless something drastic changes I'll be a Democrat for McCain.

It starts today. Conservatives are going to take the Republican party back. We are going to nominate a real man as a nominee. Democrats will do what they do: behave like liberals. I expect taking all this back only if we can get another Contract with America. I think that Newt has to be the man to do it.
