I see it as a sensitivity issue. Ponting has always had his share of run-ins with the laws of the game. Some of his illustrious team mates such as McGrath,Warney or Symonds are not angels either. So my reaction to this is "NOT SURPRISED AT ALL" I dont really take some people's arguments about "pawar hogging the limelight" as even a credible point. For that matter, Pawar had every right to hog the limelight. He organized the champions trophy and is the chief of the hosting board. The aussies need to maintain their level headedness and patience off the field. At at a time when Asians feel exploited by the so called white psyche, it only makes sense for a white team to bridge that gap with pleasant behavior. If they felt Pawar was in the way, they could have obliged Pawar with a photo and then gone on to proceed with their celebrations. I wonder what would happen if Saurav pointed fingers at John Howard and rudely gestured him to leave the pesentation dias! ICC, cricket ausralia and even the government would lodge protests!

I do think that one needs to look at this differently as do not go by what the media report as they are always out for a story for gossip and crap. I do think that when any one is overwhelmed with success or in the Aussies win they act innocently and this is just an action which does not show that Aussies are insulting India, I mean now come on what has something that a player does got to do with insulting the whole country. You need to look at this maturely and in true spirit not the way you are looking at this if i were you i would not go to such extremes.

I would like to bring in soccer analogy to make my answer clearer. Nearly every country plays soccer. And it is the most popular team game in the world, except in India. So the soccer world champions enjoy the highest popularity. And among all soccer champions Brazil enjoys iconic status. Have you ever seen or heard the Brazilian captain, or for that matter the captain of any other winning team demanding the World Cup from the chief guest or shoving him out from the podium to make way for a group photo? And to think that cricket is regarded a gentleman's game! In their heyday, even the awesome West Indians were never reported to have committed such misdemeanours. No wonder Australia is known as the Down Under. That's what they are and that's what they shall remain.

Well I think the Australians were right in what they did. Okay may be Martin should have been a little more careful but they were very excited and they wanted to celebrate and they did not want Pawar to be there. They had no idea who he is, they have every right to tell him to move aside. Its not like they pushed him down the podium or something. Indians are just too emotional. Get over it!

I support you for your statements. This act and deeds by Aussis are insulting to our nation. Aussis wouldn't have tolerated if any one of our player insult their leader. Mr. Sharad Pawar is not only minister but he is our national leader.
We should take strong action against Aussis Cricket Player, Don't you think so? I myself have decided not to watch any match with Austrelian Cricket team. I felt that they should be banned to enter into India.
This was realy insult to me and my brothers and sisters in India. And I will not tolerate such a foolish act with our leader, not even with Sonia Gandhi nor with Atal Bihari Wajpayee.
Get up Indians give strong condemn to Austrelian Govt. immediately. I am wondering how Austrelian Govt have not taken any action on this act?

I think the issue is blown out of proportion. While it definitely wasn't the nicest thing to do; but seeing the video of the event, it seems to be an act of excitement on winning the cup. The team seemed to be excited and happy on winning; I don't feel they deliberately wanted to insult Pawar. Moreover, they agree to apologise too.

The Australian cricket side has nothing to apologise for. After looking at the footage and different photos, it is clear to me that Mr Pawar wanted to hog the limelight for himself. He made no effort to get out of the way. If the team knocked in to him he has himself to blame.

Whatever explanation/excuse Mr. Ponting and his team will have about what happened at the presentation function of Champions Trophy 2006, it was a totally indecent behavious and never expected from any team especially from a team of the status of World Champions.
They owe an apology for their indecent behaviour.

Well it could be dubbed unintentional or anything else. But what a civilized person do when he unintentionally hurt others is to apologize.Otherwise it will be a shame for his country.Nothing is going to happen to Mr.Pawar, annd only for Cricket Australia and Australia Ponting should do whatever he finds appropriate rather than say it's nothing
