I do not agree with it. I think that the President's friends have investments over there and they think that they should use the US army to defend their investments. (Oil)

This is not going to be a popular answer because I feel many don't really understand.
I am against the war in Afganistan. I am for the war in Iraq.
The war in Iraq was justified by the non-compliance of Saddam and the UN resolution. That no weapons were found was unfortunate, but had Saddam complied with the UN as he had agreed, they would have known for certain before the war. Intelligence is always faulty, but then if you dont have compliance, it's all you have to go on. There was a lot of time and energy spent sharing intelligence with other countries and similar conclusions were met, so to say the war was "unjust" is by far and away the biggest and most selective hindsight I've ever witnessed in our short history.
Afganistan should have been left to deal with Osama alone. If they invited us to search for him, then that is a different circumstance, but as it occurred, I disagreed with it- unless we intend to eradicate the Taliban, there is no real purpose for us being there en-mass now. We are not going to caputure Osama with a large number of troops, but by a small group of well-trained people, likely undercover.
------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
I have read a few comments and have some of my own...
If the President is right in what he says about losing in Iraq and terrorists do take control of the oil supply there, then Timothy C is only partially right.
whay???? the false pretence was that Saddam was cooperating, not wmd. The impression was that he was hiding wmds and that was the selling point because it was not enough to say that Saddam broke the UN agreement. Keeping in mind the Constitution, President Bush could have sent in the military anyway since, by right, he has control over the military for 180 days before Congress has a say.
okidoki if you believe the war is everywhere the terrorists are and that the terrorists are all over the world, then the war is here too. No need to worry about pulling out, they're already here.
tony h the fear of Saddam with nukes is a real threat, or have you forgotten what happened in the 1990's? Fmr Pres. Bush was concerned about a great many things, however, if you keep things in the context of what was imaginable at the time, 9/11 and Saddam achieving or even coming close to nuclear weapons were impossible. The information that was posted on the internet about where they were indicates they werent too far off.
chris morganuk, your answer was answered in my initial post.
hot1_2006, your hindsight is in need of glasses...possibly bifocals.
butterflykisses427, let's assume for a moment that 9/11 did not happen. Saddam is still in power. There is intelligence from multiple countries that suggest that Saddam is pursuing knowledge to attain or create nuclear weapons and is not complying with the UN inspecters as he agreed to do in the 1990's- something that is against the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (which N Korea is now breaking, btw). Is that not our war to fight? Since we made the mess, we should clean it up. Oh, and the UN can sanction actions, but there are those in the UN that ignore it much like our employers hire under-the-table workers...or did you just think that only Americans do that?

I don't agree with it. It is not our war to fight. The Iraq people are never going to keep their freedom because they didn't fight for it. The reason America went from a colony to the super power it is today is because we fought for our freedom in the Revolutionary War and showed that we were a power to be reckoned with.
Another thing why I don't agree with this war is that the reasons changed why were there. First off it was because they claimed it was because of 9/11 and WMD. Than when it was found that there were no WMD all the sudden we had to fight for democracy. Which is it?
I agree that sometimes war is necessary. But in Iraq it is not. It is not up to us to tell another country how to run their country. It is one thing to be an ally to Iraq but it is another to fight their battles for them. It is like the say, Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, Teach a man how to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime. I can pretty much guarantee that once American Soldiers are out of Iraq they are going to lose what ground they have gained.
We should go to war for the right reasons and have proof because when it was found that there was no WMD it was like Bush had to back pedal to make himself not look like an idiot which is why the whole fighting for democracy crap came about.
When the UN can't sanction your actions that should tell you something.

i did not agree with it, Iraq was set up some time after second world and contains parts of 3 neighbouring countries
i suspect that was done to keep them warring against each other, it is good that we (the british) had a hand in the war this time but ultimately the fear is invading would lead to the situation that exists now and i dont think our motives were th right ones
if we had invaded at the end of the last gulf war, we would have achieved our goal but george bush sr was too worried about this outcome we have now to do it (even if we had there was only a slim chance but then was the time to do it and we let that pass) - the libertarians and any uprising in Iraq was slaughtered after we left back then so we lost our chance for the next 100 yrs probly
they dont trust us, and i dont blame them i wouldnt either - we have already deserted them once?? now we are considering doing it again

I think the war is good. It has been a while since America was the laughing stock of the world.... getting bogged down it wars it can never hope to win... actually no , come to think of it it hasnt really been that long.
Lets look at this really alternative silly situation...what if America was to use all its tax payers money ..ok I know Im going realy wacky here...that it spends on war and politicians gratuieties and payola and instead spends it on things like Free education, affordable housing, free hospitals, cheap medicine, a strong and workable social security system , a workable justice system where people actually get represented instead of bargaining.
A system where disefranchised mothers with children procreated from deadbeat fathers dont have to work three jobs , 18hours a day for minimum wage and then watch thier kids end up dead with a bullet in their head from some gang land crap.
A police system that treats all people the same ..come on you cant tell me the cops dont hold the truchion a little harder for the black dude.
Embraces Human rights, the very thing it tells the world it satnds up for ..come on we all know Uncle Sam has been living out his little fantasies in Gitmo and Al Graib and even equality for all.
Hey after Georgy boy ****** your Constituion in it *** with this so called Patriot act. you may even be able to get some dignity back for that as well. heres a clue , if you dont support the Patriot act then you must be on e of them...**** even Goebbles couldnt have planned it better.
America, you will never win in Iraq, your grandchildren will be paying this tax bill, it will become another Vietnam where your politicians will cower and blame your brave defence force personel for the failure because like George Jnr they shat themselves and never did their duty.
Dont believe me , then I challenge any American citizen to email me simon_sainteclaire@ yahoo.com and tell me they slept soundly when Saddam was hung. AND THEY NO LONGER FEEL AFRAID. ( email me earlier and i will soundly ***** slap you to the kerb as you rightfully deserve)
Americans...never be afraid of your Government ..your government must always be afraid of you.!!!

you're precise. you probably did the astounding element. Taking the placement one step added, Will that existence you spared on the pond, be an identical enemy that takes your existence here day? needless to say, there is no astounding answer to that. I spent years interviewing WW II Veterans interior the Nineteen Eighteen Eighties and 90s, and the state of affairs you defined replaced into quite ordinary. no longer unavoidably a pond issue, yet an unarmed guy, or a guy working away replaced into no longer a struggling with issue wherein to fireside a weapon. And so no photos have been fired.

1. We were lied into war in Iraq
a. Bush's phony claims of WMD
b. Bush tried to connect Saddam to 9-11
c. Bush kept changing the reason we went to war
2. Once We invaded, The Bush administration bungled the war.
a. didn't send enough troops
b. sent troops into war ill-equip
c. they underestimated the enemy
d. they dismantled and disarmed the Iraq army.
3. Bush administration continues to bungle the war
a. keeps Rumfeld in office even though he's a complete failure
b. still doesn't have an exit plan.
c. continued US presence in Iraq is breeding more and more terrorist
d. Insists to "stay the course in Iraq" even though it means failure.
That's only the tip of the iceberg. I don't have time to go into things like the VP saying "the insurgents are in their last troughs" or Rumsfeld saying that he can't imagine the war "lasting over six months". Or the fact that the war in Iraq is hurting our war in Afghanistan.

It is now and always was illegal, immoral, unethical and mostly uncharacteristic of this great nation of ours.
The whole thing is like a re-run of Nazi Germany attacking Poland or France or Great Britain or the USSR, etc. I think we all remember how that turned out.
If there was any justice in this life we would have a re-run of the Nuremburg war crime trials with the entire Bush administration as defendants.

i am so totally against it! I think the U.S. was totally wrong in invading iraq. there was absolutely no reason for it. When 9/11 happened who did the bombing? suddam hussein, no it was bin laden. bin laden pulled the trigger at our country and killed. And for a country who is so against terrorist we didn't do anything! Now i know suddam was affiliated with bin laden, but then again we trained Bin laden and gave him millions of dollars. so in all reality it's no one's fault but our own.
Not to mention Bush states how he wants to rid iraq of the terrorist and "try" and make the world a better place, well 2 things on that 1) Terrorist arent just from iraq there everywhere and we cant change it, we cant stop it, we cant do anything! and 2) Why are we blowing up iraq and raises taxes here so we can rebuild what WE blew up?? and why not help our own country, no one was there to aid the katrina victims for weeks and we spendall our money and attention on iraq and we have starving, sick americans and we dont care about them. our theory on that is that they ruined there own lives and we shouldnt help them. well im sorry but if your poor and born poor your gonna always be poor, because it's no secret that it takes money to make money. no one is going to give a homeless scruffy person a job!
I know like i sound like an ungreatful american, who doesnt recognize what the soldiers are doing for us, but i would like to say my brother served 10 years in the army and spent 2 years in baghdad fighting! and i respect him more than anyone! but This war is lasting to long, i mean why are we still in iraq? we caught suddam hussein and we lost bin laden so why the he*l are we still there?
In Closing........FU*K BUSH!!!!
And no he didn have WMD's we found old factories for like toothpaste and ****, and of course bush prolly went crying to daddy and said those were def. gonna be made into WMD, come on. so he was a bad guy and destroyed and killed millions and its a horrible thing, but then that happens in africa and all over the world, like i said WE CANT MAKE THE WORLD STOP TERRORISM!!! and we need to mind our own business and focus on bettering us, b-cuz then maybe other countries and people will think wow the U.S. has gotten so nice they actually take care of there country now instead of blowing every1 else up and gettin into battles that arent theres!

Yes I agree, the war is not just in Iraq. It is everywhere in the world that terrorists are. They want us dead. That's not a fear statement that's a fact. al queida has said it over and over again. People think if we leave Iraq than all will be well. It's not true. Just wait and see what happens when we move out of there.
