Thanks 'guys n gals'
In some of the press I have read it seemed like this was quite a minor or almost honorary role so I couldn't understang all the fuss about Nancy Pelosi being appointed (apart from being the first woman). You've really cleared this up for me -- with a little political bias too, always fun to read :-D

A ot, they cohse commitee chairman, the block good legislation from comming out of committee. Right now, Bush would veto any really stupid things, life eliminating the tax custs that have spurned the economy and they would not have a 2/3 to override. Sadly, Charlie Wrangel wil be in the Appropriations committee and let the tax breads die out. This means, means the marraige penalty will be back, the death tax will be back and rates will creep up. So expect a recession in about a year or two. PS The deficit will grow since lower revenus will come in the the country.

Persumptive Speake Pelosi, will have alot of power, and she will use it with a brain unlike Ginrich remember that (Revolution thing he said 12 years ago). Nancy Pelosi has been and will continue to be pegged as a very centrist leader. So expect liberal legislature to be pushed through, leaning towards the center.

The Speaker of the House is second in line to the Presidency. In other words, if something were to happen to Bush and Cheney, the Speaker of the House would become President.
I'd say (s)he holds real power/influence. -RKO-

Lots. She will set the agenda for the House. She is third in line to succeed the President in the event neither he nor the vp can serve.

It sucks because they have power. Nancy P will be the new speaker and she is probably as iberal as Kerry. I don't think a lot of people understand it.
