I paid to have my cell unlocked & I just want to make sure it is done.

I do not mean that key lock is on!

What I am asking is how do you tell if your phone is unlocked to use with different carriers? & different sim cards?

There are a number of ways.

Try using a different carrier's SIM. If it works, your phone is unlocked to use on any network.

If you bought the phone on a network plan, chances are it has been locked to the network. Check with the store you bought from. They should be able to tell. Most pre-paid phones are locked pending certain conditions. Some post-paid phones are now unlocked, as you are already in a binding contract, so whether you use their service or now makes no difference.

usually you can have your phone unlocked for FREE if you've been with your service provider for a certain time. If your phone is unlocked, then it should work with other network. You can test it by using a differrent SIM card, for example if you're using Tmobile then try a Cingular or Sprint SIM.
