trans slipes in third and revirse. is it a band adjustment?

revirse will move the car untill i give it gas, then it slips. first and second work fine but after going into third it slips.

Clutches are shot. The transmission needs rebuilt.
Master tech 40 yrs.

You did not mention the type of car, but most generally there is no adjustment.
