No, not at all. The only thing it shows is that a person wants to be natural, individual, independent and keep her own identity. Giving up on your name is much more important than people like you realize. Would you do it? No. Why not? For the same reason she wouldn't.

Accepting your name doesn't accentuate her commitment, just like refusing it doesn't prove her lack of commitment. If it's just a name and this whole situation is meaningless, then why do you consider it an obstacle? Get over it. If you care about her, you shouldn't be so selfish and you should at least respect her whishes. Making a big deal about this and considering such a meaningless gesture lack of commitment actually shows YOUR lack of commitment. Commitment implies understanding.

lack of commitment? definitely not. it gives a woman a sense of independence. there is no law set to take on someone else's last name. i think its even a nice gesture, especially when a woman doesnt have any brothers or males in the family to carry on the family name.

Not around here, around here we are prohibited by law from taking our hubby's name.

I think it may also show a need for keeping it simple. It is complicated to change names!

No way. I kept my name and hyphenated my husbands on afterward. Its a huge thing to change your name, its who you have always been. Why not use both names and both of you change to the new combo? Loads of people over here are going for that option.

Well if you have a hilarious surname then you can't blame them. Seriously though, I would be a bit put out if they didn't take my name.

Not always. She will in time I'm sure. Why wouldn't she? She knows you're a great catch. Just give her time.
