Yes! I went through exactly the same thing - i was going out drinking all the time before i even knew i was pregnant!! I asked my GP about it and she told me not to worry as this happens to more women than you can imagine and rarely has side effects so don't worry!
Of course its important that you either stop now or stick within the recommended number of units for pregnancy as too much can be very harmful to your baby but any idiot with a brain could work that out so im sure you don't need telling!!
I spent my whole pregnancy worrying and when he popped out the first thing i said to my partner was "is his face normal?!" I'd gotten all these horrible images of him being disfigured because of it!. Of course he was a gorgeous perfect healthy 8lb 5oz who's now grown into a clever witty little 4year old, so i really shouldn't worry! It happens to loads of us!
Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy!

Just found out myself and was doing the same thing. I've had 3 babies when drinking wine and they are all healthy and fine. When it's at the early stage it very rarely affects the baby unless you're a raging alcholic! If you're not eating get some fresh ginger peel it and boil it for about 10 minutes - put a little sugar if you wish but it really will make you feel better.
All the best with the baby - I'm sure you'll be fine. If you're still worried go to your doctor and ask for a scan.

Yes, I went to a barbecue on the Saturday and was drinking beer then whiskey, and smoking, the next day was a beautiful sunny day again so we bought a crate of Bud and drank it in the garden. again smoked lots of fags. The following Friday I went to a wedding so drank wine during the meal and then Bacardi breezers all night and smoked over 20 fags. On the Tuesday I found out I was pregnant and sobbed my heart out because I thought I had damaged my baby. I didn't touch another drop of alcohol and gave up smoking 4 weeks after finding out (my doctor said to wean myself off the fags as just stopping could cause more harm than good). I gave birth to a healthy little boy in march weighing in at 8lb13oz. he is 8 months old and apart from a cold or two never had any problems (touch wood). and I am proud to say that I still am not smoking! I do enjoy a drink now and then, but i am a mum now, my party days are on hold until he is grown up!

I did exactly the same i didnt find out i was pregnant until about 6 weeks and although i hate to admit it i was drinking and snorting coke every weekend up until then! I told my midwife and she said it would probably be o.k as long as i stopped there and then, which i did . Babys are very resilient and if they are gonna survive they will do. I also had the screening test for downs syndrome as it worried me so much but that came back fine, i suggest you have that when the time comes. Im now 29 weeks and have had no serious problems. Good luck with your pregnancy and for the future.

i went through the same thing with my daughter who is now two and perfectly healthy. Talk to the doctor and express your concerns. If it was just some wine, they may not feel the need to worry about it at all. in my case, i concieved on my 21st birthday and, well, you can imagine what that ment, lol. When i talked to my doctor, they told me that it's quite common for the women to drink early on and the baby to be fine, but they kept a closer eye on me and the baby and around my 3rd month gave me a level 2 ultra sound in addition to a normal ultra sound. A level two ultra sound doesn't look much clearer to the untrained eye, but shows the doctor the development of the brainstem and spinal cord more clearly than a traditional u.s.
Of course, there are no guarentees, and every pregnant mother worrys about her babies health, but chances are your baby will be just fine.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago on yahoo when I found out I was 5 months pregnant! I was a wreck. It didnt help when I asked the responses I got were rude, harsh, and uncalled for. (not all of course) I was throwing up for a week, and scared myself to death thinking of the worse.
In any case, I drank alot during the first 5 months, vodka, wine, beer. My baby is completely healthy! I had all birth defect tests and she is doing awesome!
Dont fret. You have a good chance of having a very healthy baby:)

Same happened to me - I was knocking back Vodka mainly but also lager and stuff. I didnt know I was pregnant until I was about 4 months but I went on to have a very healthy bouncing 7lb 12 oz baby. Dont worry - that'll do more harm than the wine. As long as you stopped now is the main thing xxx

Happened to me with both mine. Must have conceived last one in early december 2005 but drank like a fish at work christmas dinner, on christmas day, new years eve etc.Found out I was pregnant at end of Jan 2006 and had healthy 7lb 8oz baby girl in August.
Same happened with first one, went to a concert & got so drunk I can't remember being there. Also drank loads on other occasions and had 8lb 14oz son!
I don't think it is anything to worry about but I hardly touched a drop both times once I had found out.

My firend smoked and drank as she didn't find out she was pregnant until she was 7 months gone. When she knew of course she stopped. She had a perfectly ealthy baby girl. More women that not, don't find out that their pregnant until around this time. I'm sure the baby will be fine. I don't believe everything that goes into your body is passed diectly on to the baby. As long as you're helathy most of the time, I think the baby will be too. Maybe talk to your doctor, i'm sure he will be able to reassure you.
Good luck

relax, stress is not good for you or the baby. Okay so FAS is what you would be worrying about and FAS is caused by binge drinking episodes in pregnancy not one glass of wine a night for the first little while in pregnancy.
You will both be fine. For more info go to www.nofas.org
