Theirs no way to know with out a biopsy, that is a medical procedure carried out to remove cells that are then analysed to see if they are cancerous or normal....he shouldn't worry, most lumps turn out to be normal growths, but he should definitely make an appointment asap to see his doctor! Most cancers can be treated once found at the early stages....

'Cyst' is just Greek for 'chamber', and usually refers to a 'sebaceous cyst'. This is a harmless 'pocket' of sebum (the skin's natural waterproofing material). Harmless fluid-filled cysts can also appear in other tissues.

If this is a medical diagnosis, then there is no need to worry.
Sebaceous cysts are very common, so a misdiagnosis is unusual.

However, doctors can be wrong, so a repeat enquiry after a little while can sometimes be useful insurance, or if there are other worrying symptoms or changes in the same area, obtaining a second opinion might be wise.

If he has diagnosed this condition himself, or by reference to a book or helpline, THEN HE SHOULD GET IT PROPERLY CHECKED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

I have a mate with a similar problem. He went to his GP who said he thought it was a cyst but he would send him for a scan anyway. He has now had the scan and the cyst turns out to be a varicose vein. So don't worry!

Is he SURE it is a cyst?? He really should see a doctor who is qualified, trained, and licensed to give medical advice. People on this site are not. Good luck.

Chow!!

Only way he will find out is by seeing a DR. They are the only one's who will be able to tell him if it is cancerous or not. Good luck to him.

Could be a cyst, could be a boil, could be a hernia, could be cancer.

Email me the lump and I'll tell you.
