I feel so sorry for all of the innocent Iraquis caught in this nightmare. The loss of any loved one is as painful to them as it is to you or I. So pointless and tragic.

Iraqis value thier lives, and the lives of their loved ones, as much as you.
To simply answer "72 virgins" is an insult to millions of ordinary people mixed up in an extaordinary situation.
if foreign soldiers were walking down your high street.....if your mother and father had been blown up by a bomb, simply because they lived 3 doors down from a political party headquarters......if your family lived in fear of so-called 'friendly fire'....then maybe you wouldnt be so quick to judge iraqis

Sting wrote the lyrics to 'Russians' during the cold war....I think they are very apt, here:

Russians
-------------
In Europe and America, there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy
There is no monopoly in common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent
To put the words in the mouth of the President
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie that we don't believe anymore
Mr. Reagan says we will protect you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me, and you
Is that the Russians love their children too

Despite what you may believe, this question is racist due probably to ignorance and a lack of empathy.
All Humans have the same emotions.
Humans also have the ability to adapt, and survive in the most terrible of conditions.
You have probably never seen a dead body. Your local coroner or doctor or policeman has, yet the attitude these people have to death in no way is a reflection of their callousness. What makes you think an Iraqi's attitude is any different.
I only hope that when you are tested to the same limits, you are capable of reaching your own standards.

I know, it is horrifc for both the iraqi and the soldiors going out there. My brother in law is going for the third time on Saturday and will be there over xams. My sister is distraught becasue many from his regiment have already been killed.

Why cant the goverment just leave it now - if there was no forces there, maybe it would stop the iraqi peolpe using guns, bombs etc

True and it sure is a shame, but I have to say that they are in a state of civil war. Now, I am not trying to justify the killings in anyway, but we need to acknowledge the reality of the situation. The Sunni and Shiaa sects are at war with each other. After decades of Sunii rule, the Shiaa are now in control of all the political and economic institutions.

To answer your question, I honestly think that at this stage life ha s no value for them, all they want is power and control and everything else does not really matter. It is a shame to see Iraq disintegrating into civil war.

They want to live, just like you do. The Democrats and ignorant Americans who voted them in last night don't seem to care anymore whether Iraqis live or die...
