am also about to start a midwifery course. how nice of you to want to do this for your wife... have a word with my hubbie! ; )-
thing is what to get?
associated books though practical are a bit boring,
how about focusing more on the fact thats she's gonna be studying so hard rather than the specific course?
a massage book and oils?
a luxury pampering set?
if however you really want something linked o midwifery, its a bit tricky.
theres a fab book recommended a friend of mine who has kids.
heart and hands by elizabeth davies
it's one midwifes memoirs and tips. apparently great for mothers and midwifes alike.
hope whatever you get she'll appreciate.
good luck ; )

There is an awesome painting by Carla Golembe based on the verse from the Bible in Exodus 1 about the Hebrew Midwives: "But the midwives feared God and did not what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the children alive." It is available as a poster or a t-shirt from MANA (Midwives Alliance of North America) at http://www.mana.org/forsale.html .
Also you will find great products at cafepress.com . Just run a search on "midwifery" - nearly 500 different designs come up and you can get them printed on t-shirts, totebags, etc.
You could also get her a subscription to Midwifery Today (www.midwiferytoday.com) or some other professional journal.
These sites have some neat birth-related jewelry:

I had a attraction bracelet and he have been given me a attraction for it while our son grew to become into born. some type of jewellery with the toddler's birthstone or a attraction with a mom keeping somewhat one is beneficial. Even something like a nail cropping and a pedicure at a community salon is beneficial, in case you are able to no longer have the money for a whole day spa kit. My husband watched the toddler and permit me bypass out and get a sassy hair cut back and severe lighting fixtures put in. That made me sense like one million greenbacks!

How about a book on herbal remedies and homeopathic cures? I think it's part of the required learning in mid-wifery.
