Jonathan King suggested the name Genesis
When we got to the album we called ourselves Revelation over here; that's why the album is called 'From Genesis to Revelation.'
We were Genesis in England and Revelation here, 'cause there was another group called Genesis here (U.S.) at the time.

Mike Rutherford has a sister called Genny. This became "Gen his sis" or Genesis.
or it could be something to do with the first name they found in the bible
